Pastor's Place

September

How’s the path you are on going? Perhaps you find it a bit thorny. If you do you may appreciate this story. A man lived in the mountains with his little daughter. They were sheep herders. One day while looking for a missing lamb, they found it caught in a thorny thicket. Very carefully they lifted the lamb out and found that it was scratched and bleeding in places. The little girl said to her father, that’s a bad tree. Let’s cut it down. The next day they returned to the thorny tree with an ax to cut it down. As they got there they noticed a small bird flutter down to a branch on that tree. The bird grabbed a mouthful of wool that had been left by the lamb as it struggled the day before. The bird tugged and tugged until it had a beak full of wool and flew away. With that the little girl looked up at her dad and said, I think God has a good reason for this thorny tree. Now I don’t think we should cut it down, because the thorns are helping that bird to get soft wool for its baby’s nest! So when your path gets thorny don’t allow the thorns to cause you to lose perspective. For sure the thorns will hurt and cut like they did the little lamb, and the thorns may seem to have no purpose. But in God’s great plan and purpose for you, every thorn can be an opportunity for increasing your vision. When your path gets thorny and it will, be at peace, and recognize that God is walking with you! In the hymn Be Still My Soul a line states, in every change He faithful will remain will remain. Be still my soul; your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end!

Peace be with you,

Pastor David
