November
The psalmist says, it is good to give thanks to the Lord. Thanks, for what? Our country is a mess financially. Many people have lost their jobs. Almost everybody cannot pay their bills. Illness abounds everywhere and health costs are astronomical. People can barely meet the costs of education these days. Many families are in turmoil or breaking apart. In short it feels like people can barely keep their heads above the water. The Psalmist has some nerve telling us it is good to give thanks to the Lord. If God is so good, why doesn’t He give me things to be thankful about?
It truly doesn’t often appear that we have anything to be thankful about.
One thing we really forget about is that God has done the most important thing of all. In the midst of all the bad that happens, this one thing stands out. God died for all mankind. That’s right God died!! Though we accuse Him of being loveless and uncaring, not helpful and unconcerned about our needs; He took care of our greatest need of all. He saved us from rightful punishment, spiritual death and Hell. We might rate our life on earth as bad, but spiritual death and separation from God forever is far worse, much worse. No one ever said life was going to be easy for Christians included. Because of sin it is not. It was not easy for Jesus to suffer what He suffered, to bear the pain of thorns, whip, nails and spear. It was anything but pleasant for Him to bear our sins and punishment, but He did. So this year for Thanksgiving, we may not have much materialistically or physically to thank God about we do have the Savior’s steadfast love which took Him to the Cross and will one day grant us all we do not now enjoy. So thank Him today and with the Psalmist say it is indeed, good to give thanks to the Lord.
A Blessed Thanksgiving to all,
Pastor, Michelle and Joshua
